Anyone have a 6x47 chambered by Nev Madden?

Post by Winston »

Bit of a long shot here, I'm sure. I screwed on a 6x47L barrel Nev did for me last year. He said his reamer has a 0.2725" neck, but my 269 thou neck brass from my other 6x47l rifle won't chamber. If anyone here has one done by Nev, what neck diameter are you running? I would prefer not to waste a bunch of cases turning until I guess it right!

Have you tried neck sizing a case with a smaller bushing or the expander removed from a due to see if it fixes the issue?

Hi,

Suggest you buy/borrow some Cerrosafe Chamber Casting alloy and make yourself a chamber cast which I have done many times successfully. Trick is to preheat the barrel with warm water (not boiling) so the cast doesn't cool too quickly resulting in flow groves and pock marks on the casting

Take a look at this link

Good Luck

I would suggest that your problem is most likely a sizing issue. I doubt Neville would be wrong with his quoted neck dimension.

Hi Keith - any ideas how to work out if it is a sizing issue or not? Virgin cases that have been turned to 269 thou stop chambering about a neck length out, cases fire-formed in another rifle and neck sized/ shoulder bumped with a 267 thou bushing do much the same. With that said, marking the neck and projectile with permanent marker and forcing it in doesn't show any noticeable points of friction.

Cheerio,
Alex

EDIT - Just screwed my bushing/bump die all the way down and sized a few cases. They will now go in much further and I can close the bolt without a breaker bar. Will fire-form a few in this chamber and see what happens. I'm guessing at this stage that Nev's reamer and Lee Trengrove's have dimensions different enough to cause me some headaches Seems you might be right, Keith.
