Berger 200.20x projectiles

Post by SunnyCoast 5r »

Looking at using 200gr Bergers for FTR and found this link

http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/201 ... id-bullet/

Says they are so good that the US team will be using at WChamps in 2017 and Berger will donate $1 per box to that team.

So will I be supporting the US Team if I buy them (if we ever get some sent to Oz)?!

Not directly. But the Q store would be.

Any news on the testing ShaneG?

They do look good for FTR...do you think they would go any good from my 11.25 twist?

Berger's calculator says that you are going to need a 1:10 for them to reach their potential bc. A 1:11.25 only marginally stabilized the projectile, so I don't think that you will be able to find a load that will group consistently.

Managed to do a small ladder today with various seating depths.
From .020 to .100 in .020 steps.
Used a new batch of Varget (2208) and had increase of 40 fps over 200 Hybrid load.
Not sure if powder or projectile or both.
200.20X has longer boat tail and shorter bearing surface so should be a bit faster?
Our barrels are throated long for 200 Hybrid and the 200.20X require approx .040 shorter throat so marginal neck seating depth thus why I went down as far out as .100 jump?
Short jump = best accuracy. As I increased jump accuracy declined and so did velocity.
In this barrel anyway. Accuracy comparable to 200 Hybrids which is excellent as my 3 shot tests at 300 yards have been under .2 Moa - amazing barrels ! The best I have used to date!
One obvious concern was a higher SD than the 200 Hybrids which is opposite what has been reported here so far?
Normal Hybrids have been performing very well for us and until I get a barrel throated specifically for the 200.20X I won't do any further work.
My current barrel is 1/11 but these tests are at 6300 ' elevation.
Berger says minimum 1/10.3 for the 200.20X so wouldn't take the chance of a 1/11 working at low elevations where most of OZ ranges are situated?
Still difficult to source barrels in US currently.
Powder short supply due to election buying.

Thanks for the update Shane...might have to wait for a new barrel in 1:10 twist...the projectiles do look good.
So does anyone have a clue when we might see some in Australia?

The 200.20X are back ordered into November over here now I think?
So OZ availability ???.........
I was lucky enough to see some available a couple days after announcement to gain some for assessment.
As I said my initial results gave higher ( much higher SD) than 200 Hybrids.
But my throat could be partly to blame with minimal neck / bearing surface engagement and low neck tension?
Giving poor initial ignition? David W ???thoughts?

Thanks to Shane for recent update (email) on his experience with these projectiles: invaluable info given to potential competitors to advance the sport.

But the big question is when might we see any in Australia?

Anyone had an update from the Qstore?

Would be great to try some....

Have been playing with these for a while now, just running in a new barrel to suit. Found a nice spot at 2770fps, although like Shane said they are easy to get going faster, 2820fps is achievable. Had an es with 7 shots last weekend of 6fps, ( first few shots after a barrel clean blew it out to 10fps for 11 shots ) which I was impressed with. and they look good on paper.

I get mine from RI, which is a pretty simple process, just fill out the form & away you go. PM me SunnyCoast if you want to go ahead & order from the states, they are not cheap by the time they get here but they may be worth it, if you can get them going.

This is a 1-10 Bartlein, 32" long on a Barnard, using 2208 & 450 primers.
