What does the cost of the plugs work out to be per firing in comparison?

Yes I know , bit nervous !
But about $0.15 with powder and primer at a guess?

You might consider cutting squares out of a sheet of foam instead of the ear plugs & ramming them into the neck.

Hi John , I thought it would work well and would if you cut all of the pieces exactly the same every time as it seems to affect how much pressure is exerted . That is some were pops and the primers were backing out because of the lack of pressure and the shoulder didn't form. Then the opposite would happen as it was supposed to. So had inconsistent forming ! Also found that it is important to cut the dunny paper consistently in 20 mm strips accross ways as this also had an effect on how the pistal powder burned .

Ok an update ! I just did another 26 cases today and learnt a few more things ( which the old hands probably all ready knew !)
Ok cream of wheat is called in Australia , Semilina which is about $2.50/ pkt and is also good for breakfast! It just seems to burn up with the gunpowder .
Ok I ended up with 13.0 grs of 50 n and 16.6 gr of simolina and also ditched the dunny paper and ear plugs!

So I cut up in equal portions of foam pieces .
Then metered out 13 gr of powder and poured into case, then straight onto the charge 16.6gr simolina and then the foam plug.
Then fire case and it is still load , so down to the rifle range after you've finished ur club shoot maybe.
Out pops a %99 7-08 Ai case ! Use above loads with caution please!

Barrel cleaned up mirror finish again inside and burnt quite clean!
No suffering in accuracy could be seen after yesterday's testing but only 50 cases so early days !

Years ago my brother and I used to make up loads for rats (357 revolvers but that is a story for another time!) and he suggested cork sheet for a wad. Worked a treat and more user friendly than foam. Just punched them out using an old case.
Might avoid any nasty fumes from melting foam.

Ww found loading cast bullet loads that "hard" wads like cork used to hold the powder charge onto the primer tended to mark a ring on tapered cases.

Hi Sunny coast ! Would that make it a caulking gun ! Hehe! Yes I've read wax, cotton wool and Dacron ( white polyester cotton wool looking stuff).

when fireforming with cow i always use bullseye powder.Finding the optimum charge is the trick.one thing i do though is take the ejector out of the bolt and fireform the loaded cases in the vertical position.this tends to make them form better.Also irish spring soap with aloe works very well as a plug.a little bit messier but makes a very good seal which in my opinion helps form better.
