Ballistic limits at Ottowa

Post by macguru »

I found this table of Ballistic limits at Ottowa:

https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/b84a4b_a ... 55b77b.pdf

unless its a misprint it shows you can launch 230gr 30 cal hybrids at up to 2928fps. That an ME of over 4300 foot pounds, more than the range limit even in nsw (4182?). More than i think a 300wsm can get, so my question is, is anyone giving it a go ? remember some are more recoil tolerant than others...

Very good question macguru !

Like many of us I read widely on the internet about who's shooting what globally and I notice Shiraz Balolia and Steve Blair have both played extensively with the 300WSM and big bullets. As Steve Blair says "it took him months to learn how to shoot the rifle well". I'd suggest that tells you it's never gonna be easy to cope with that level of 'Gun Upset' and if you get the gun handling just a little bit wrong you're toast ......

There are a few here shooting the 300WSMs and doing pretty well with it. Not sure if they are using the 230s, I think it is the 215s they are using.
