ALL omarks have the following threads.
Recoil lug ---- 1/4 BSF ( to suit the Parker Hale kingscrew swivel )
Tang ---1/4 UNF
Sightplate Fixing ---3/16 ( # 10 ) UNF

Well, I don't know if either of my Omarks have been altered by previous owners Barry but the recoil lug screws on them are definitely not interchangeable.

However, the tang screws are!

Check to see if somebody hasn't run a ¼UNF tap up the recoil lug, in which case both screws should be the same thread on that one.

It happened as often as not when socket head screws came into use.

Thanks to all who posted info. After a visit to a local Engineering workshop, I have managed to work out that the SDQ rifle uses one quarter UNF screw for both tang and recoil lug, whilst the earlier manufactured D rifle has one quarter UNF for the tang and a 6mm screw for the recoil lug!

Methinks that some previous owners are responsible.

Anyway, all is now sorted.

The front take down screw on the early Omark is 1/4 BSF NOT 6mm!!!!!! 1/4 BSF is 26 TPI this thread was used to match the Parker Hale swivel "king screw" for a 2 point sling attachment.

Well, I'll tell you what, KHGS; You send me your address via pm and I'll refer you to the bloke who owns and runs the Engineer shop here and you can come and tell him that he does not know what he is talking about when it comes to thread types etc.

I have both a 1/4 BSF screw and the 6mm one. Guess which one fits! #-o

As I mentioned earlier; It is entirely possible that an earlier owner of this rifle may have made alterations!!

It has been altered, incorrectly. I was not referring to YOUR Omark, I was referring to how they came out of the factory & that 6mm was not standard !!!!!! By the way for your info I happen to be a fitter & turner by trade & a gunsmith by profession & I have smithed more Omarks than most & I am familiar with various thread types having single point cut most of them at one time or other #-o.

In 1969 the rifle was only known as a sportco 44. I bought one when in yr 9 at school for less than $100 and it was posted to me in a cardboard box, from SA. I imagine the name Omark started a bit later. (308 of course)
