260 Rem load data help

Post by ShaneG »

Just starting work on a load for a 260 Rem with 123 Scenars.
Can anyone advise from experience what jump/jam and ballpark with 2209?
I don't have any experience with this cartridge as yet.
Thanks in advance

Looking at a few charts, start at around 42.5 and work up to around 45.5 of 2209, by what I can see it’s a very similar load zone to an 85 grain Sierra game king hpbt in a 243 and around 44 grains of 2209 works well there. Seating depth is dependent upon the rifle, each has its own preference, but for virgin brass you should jam around ten thou to get a good fire forming with a moderate load. Once you have done the fire forming then you can play with jump or jam.

Hi Shane,15 thou jump, my best 2209 load was 44gn,but got a tighter group with less velocity from 38.7 gn 2208 . The load delivered results back to 600 yards but was flukey in the wind at longer distance. Barrel was 1 in 8 Kreiger heavy varmint

Hi Shane
I've been using 44.2gns of 2209 for quite a while in my Tikka 260.
It has been a consistantly accurate load for about 1100 rounds at distances out to 800m.
Next time I take it to the range, I will experiment with chasing the lands but if that has no appreciable effect, I will revert to the original load.

Hi Shane
It was actually with Hornady,s 123 grain A-Max projectiles.
I understand that they are no longer being manufactured but I still have almost 500 of them.
After that I think I will try the ELD's.
