Deleting old p/m both in and ot

Not being a computer wiz (old fart) how does one delete old private messages both in and out.
Help please.

go to your pm's
on the right ,there is a check box.under the word "mark"
check the ones you want to delete.
scroll down to the bottom,you will see "mark/unmark as important" and a down arrow.
click on that and choose "delete" then click on it.
