Yes that makes sense if you’ve got the cases.

WSM brass is much easier to find than SAUM.

What’s your load with 2217, what velocity do you get with it?

How much throat erosion are you seeing??

62 grains and about 2750fps. It's just a play rifle as I'm trying a few ideas with shooting off a bipod. There would be very little throat erosion yet. And yes mate it's a bloody inefficient way of getting a 180 Berger hyb to 2750fps.

The crazy thing is Ben - and u allude to it in one of your posts - is perhaps it's not always the most efficient cartridge that produces the best groups ? If ya wanna win a shooting match ya need accuracy. First ! If ya trashing cases who cares. If ya torching the throat, who cares ..........

I'll ask the same question - I would have thought 2217 to be too slow for the 210/300wsm combo

Just try it lads.

Have a look on the Berger website under "resources" and there's all the detail about the various Berger bullet measurements ( that's a smart move by Berger I say ). If there is a relationship between pressure and bullet bearing surface length then the Berger "quick reference sheet" will help guide you through the kind of powder choice that might work for you.

I would START WELL ON THE SAFE SIDE and by shooting 3 shot groups in rising 1/2 grain increments, u will soon get an idea on what's happening re pressures and velocities. You have to start somewhere and this test will establish the safe limits.

My GUESS is it would be a great powder for the proposed use !
