6.5 PRC hand loads

Post by Caska »

Hi guys
just after some information on hand loading for this calibre I purchased one for long-range hunting primarily on goats and Wild Dog‘s just after some information on suggested powders probably running behind a 143eldx or the new burger 156s and also any ideas on where to source some reloading dies I like the reading dies full length bushing size and the Forster comp seating die

Thanks

Regards
Pete

2217 (H1000) and 2213sc (H4831sc) seems popular with the steel bashers, dies I wouldn’t go past Brt shooters supply great people to deal with and reasonable prices, H1000 in the 6.5 Saum started that craze so might be a good place to start

If u look here https://www.hodgdonreloading.com/ u will see loads for the 6.5PRC using 143eldx's and 2225 ( same as Retumbo ) i.e. 50.7g start load and a max load of 59.0g. Also load detail for 2217 ( same as H1000 ). Take care and look out for all the usual signs of excess pressure ! Mate, any powder the gun shoots well with is a good powder. R23 could be good too ? Probably MOST important re finding a good load for ANY gun is that the gun ideally needs to be well built and actually capable of good consistent accuracy. Hopefully yours is. Obviously ya gotta shoot it well too. I'm off shooting goats maybe next week with a 7/300WSM using 160TMK's. The Sierra TMK seem to be a very good consistent boolit but I see the 130TMK for the 6.5cal has a fairly poor BC.

Sorry I have amended the above 2225 suggested max load to 59.0 grains, NOT 50.9. BTW that seems an unusually large gap between the suggested minimum and max load, whatever that means ? Have fun.
