Any chance of non-competition practice events?

Match Rifle has been around at least as long as F-Class, and now includes F-Class at all Australian competitions. Match Rifle has its own excellent website http://www.matchrifle.org/ as an official information source, and ozfclass.com is pleased to be able to provide a discussion forum for the benefit of all interested in this discipline.

Any chance of non-competition practice events?

Post by bad_primer »

Hey everyone

Recognising the difficulties that COVID imposed and the prospect that things are improving, is there any chance we could run practice/non-competition events? This would allow us to keep engaging in MR, improving skills and developing loads, over match distances, for when we can get back into it. Making them non-competitive would ensure that interstate participants are not disadvantaged for not being to attend different state comps.

Just a thought, I was really hoping to get to Coona for 1500yds but this could be a reasonable compromise while still getting us out there and practicing for when it kicks back into gear.

I certainly hope so, it would be great to have some fun long range shoots to kick the new year off.

At 8 1/2 hours drive each way I guess the monthly practices at Stawell are a bit far for you. Sure the people in Ungarie would be pleased to have some shooters come and spend some money in their town. Here's hoping for the NSW competition there in May.

Coonabarabran is another option, not as far for Sydney or Brisbane based shooters.

Isn’t this just the same as a regular club shoot? If I’m going to travel anywhere I’d rather it count for something. I can practice at my home range.

A lot of us aren’t in clubs where we can shoot 1000yd+ or for longer shot strings, 3-4 ranges each day in simulated match conditions on proper targets.

I think this is an eminently manageable within all the Covid controls in place. The Ungarie range or Coona could easily accomodate social distancing and numbers if that is a concern but it’s unlikely to be enormous, could even limit spaces to those who can RSVP their attendances. Mandate those from “Red” zones not attend.

Risks are very manageable is all I’m saying and the benefit of getting some Match rifle practice in and catching up with people would be great.

NSWMRA held a practice weekend / come and try at Ungarie in March 2019 and was planning to hold one sometime in in 2020 until COVID stopped everything.

We are currently planning to hold our NSW Match Rifle and Long Range F Class State Championships at Ungarie on Saturday 1st May and Sunday 2nd May 2021 and our Ultra Long Range Challenge at Coonabarabran on the 5th, 6th and 7th October 2021. These dates are yet to be confirmed and when they are further information will be sent out.

Great to hear, I will put those dates in my diary so I’ve got something to look forward to.
