G'day Chopper,

I cant find my current Benchrest rule book, but an earlier version has all the target dimensions, and I dont think they have changed recently.....

Dimensions are:

Target card 12" x 24", dividing line horizontally across the middle with 10.5" squares above and below the dividing line, for sighter and business targets.

Actual target has a 1.5" O.D. 10 ring, each successive ring increases by 1.5" O.D. out to the 6 ring.

There is a 3" square aiming mark(with 0.750" borders leaving a 1.5" unprinted square) at 12 o'clock on the target, tangent to the 8 ring.

If you need any more details, such as line thickness etc, let me know.

At Bendigo on June 7, where we used the Super V for F-Open, I said to a few people before the start that it was very unlikely that a 50.10 possible would be shot. Paul (Chopper) Read was the first shooter down and proceeded to make mincemeat of my prediction with the only possible of the day. It was the most accurate F-Class shoot I have ever seen. The 300 super V was exactly 35mm in diameter. This compares with 38.1mm for the BR 300 10 ring. I'm wondering how common 100 for score is in Heavy Gun at 300yds.

BTW Paul, I read on the US forums that Barney Lawton is very sick. Almost got the impression that he won't work again. Have you heard anything?

G'day chopper, I've attached an ink friendly copy of the 300br target i use to use for practice. Unfortunately the program that prints them (target express) wont let me save it as a jpeg or bitmap.

Just in case the link doesn't work pm me with your email and i will send it direct along with any others you might require as the program has heaps of sighting in, pistol, rifle, long & short range, small bore etc targets in it.
Regards Stuart.

Paul,

I heard you won the day at Leeton - congratulations =D> - not bad for your first foray into benchrest. Can you give us some details e.g. group sizes, conditions, what the opposition was using?

Thank you Alan, yes i had a win at the Leeton -Narrandera 300m benchrest competition and must say i enjoyed it very much, great bunch of blokes and the help was endless, a good fire to stand around all day with the billies boiling with steak and sangers on the barbi, it was great to stay in one spot all day, very hard targets to shoot at being so small , but put me in another dimention of how to hold a rifle and pull the trigger which lets me know just how sloppy i have been doing it on the fo fs standard targets, my groups sizes were from about 26mm to 45mm , a couple of 6.5 284s were proving hard to toss but my 6x47 lawton barrelled action and chopper stock just kept going and yes its still beded on the wood,, ile get to that one day, there was also a very accurate dasher there ,300 win mag ,308, omark , bat actions, viper, and others , stands varied from home made to the very fancy,oh by the way Shane Clancy shot a rem m17 and shot very very well indeed, there were two record groups i beleive shot on the day one was my rifle shot by John Butts 0.812 but was beaten would you beleive by a couple of tho by that other lawton barreled action dasher shot by Trevor Bent from Albury, the fellow who ran second by four points used my rifle ,Well done John Butts from Wagga , i cant give any scores as i havent got any ,CHOP.

chopper,

Well done on the result mate ..

must say i enjoyed it very much, great bunch of blokes and the help was endless,

That speaks volumes doesn't it .. if you want a shoot or sport to grow what better advert could you want than to have a first time shooter (at that event) leave with that opinion.

Hope to see you at Leeton next time around and maybe even at Canberra for the 500 Fly in september.

cheers
Dave
