2011 WLRC Belmont QLD

Post by phillh »

I will be attending the 2011 World Long Range Championships in Belmont QLD. I will be shooting the 3 days of the Queen's and taking photos for the Queen's and the major world comps. If you want to stay informed watch the NRAA web site http://www.2011.nraa.com.au/ and also check out http://www.flickr.com/photos/68317126@N07/ for my photos.

Yes, we will be putting up daily reports, results, whatever onto the 2011 website ( http://www.2011.nraa.com.au ) as best we can.

It takes a while to do results as there are 500 odd shooters. Today was slow due to people changing there grades, not handing in cards, various distractions, etc.

I am also putting up the running scoreboard that can be seen at
http://www.ozscore.com.au/snapshot.php? ... oreboard=0

or

http://www.ozscore.com.au/snapshot.php? ... oreboard=1

The second one rotates around the various grades and disciplines, showing the top 5 A grade TR. I will try to keep this updated as results come off the stats system.

Geoff.

Good job once again Geoff.

The NRAA results page at http://www.2011.nraa.com.au/results.php is a good way of getting to the final results at days end.

Congrats to the winners of the leadup event, being Ron Betts F-Std A, Andrew Noble F-Std B and Dave McNamara F-Open. Looks like Belmont has been tricky again at the longs, but Dave McN still managed a 60 at 1000! =D> He must have picked up a few skills from his encounter with the Freemantle Doctor.

Thanks Alan - Beginners Luck  . I must have lied down at the right time at 900 and 1000 at Perth and Brisbane. Certainly the rifle and loads are doing their part..

Saturday morning was looking terrible with some ripper storms that interupted the team shoots but it settled down nicely for the afternoon. Sunday was reasonable but with that usual "twitchy" Belmont westerly.

It has been a real experience so far to meet so many international competitors and such a large field. The queens is to be even bigger (over 500 shooters).

I also think the Queens is going to be very exciting and closely competitive in FO (F standard always is). Cameron turning up plus a few of the guys were still trialling different rifles/barrels and Jannie Els was getting used to borrowed gear. He got better and better with every range.

Lots of fun. :D

Wish I was there  .

Dave if you or one of the others has internet access at the range, would be great if you could give us the nightly gossip during the Queens, and its always interesting to know what calibres the F-Open shooters are using.

Good luck to all for the Queens starting tomorrow.

I have my laptop on the range. Rod flys in this afternoon. He is not shooting, so I will see if he wishes to update this thread.

It has been great putting faces to names. I look forward to meeting many more F class shooters tomorrow.

Some calibres from memory but will chase up others when I get back.

Jannie Els 6mmBR and 284
Rod Davies 284, 6.5 WSSM (Gertrude), 300WSM, 6mm Dasher (yes he mucked around a bit).
Mark Fairnbairn 6XC, 6.5 * 284, 284 (has some others as well that he might bring out to play 260 Ackley, 7-08 Ack, etc)
John Tracey 284?
Emile Daniel 6mmBR
Gene Hill 300WSM (off Harris Bipod)
Kelvin Bell (?? 6.5*284, 6*47??)
Dave McNamara (284 Shehane and maybe 6BR if Jannie lets me have it back)

Some other Goss. Emile was shooting really well and rifle fell completely apart at 1000. hardly hitting the target. May have been starting to go at 8 and 900. Suspect something came very loose. Kelvin was going quite well but don't think his final card made it to the scoring room somehow???

We all wish you were here too Alan along with many other notable M.I.A's.

Thanks Dave.

There's a few big US F-Class names there I see. Emil Praslick for one, and Mid Tompkins (shooting TR) won the 2005 Individual F-Class World Champs in South Africa. And if you get an opportunity to talk to Bryan Litz, ask him what's coming in the way of Hybrid Bergers.

I tried to talk to Bryan briefly "G'day Bryan. How are you going etc etc" but he was very contemplative, standing at back of course and watching wind all day. He might start to relax in a few days so will try again later. I was scoring for Emil Praslik. Very nice guy and coach of US team (U25's??). His wind reading on big changes was excellent. After a couple of big changes he would wind three or 4 minutes and start again in 6 or x. He seemed to be just getting caught by the smaller fluctuations inherent in the belmont westerly. He is shooting in standard to fine tune his wind reading at belmont for their team shoot.
Jannie Els (South African F class captain) was also on our target and was good to chat to him with all his experience. Of particular interest to me was a couple of differences between international rules and where we are heading. I might start some threads for discussion on these after the event.

what's coming in the way of Hybrid Bergers.[/quote]

I have some 180 Hybrids loaded up to try at the SSAA range this afternoon trying to get my new 7mm working. BRT shipment arrived yesterday
I have another 1500 here for those who got me to pick them up for them. They are a good looking bullet which sit out a bit further in the case to touch the rifling. The bearing surface is shorter also, so pressures should be lower.

Hey Dave, that Anti Doping protest still stands for you not leaving a urine, stool and semen sample before leaving the range after your 60 at 1000. You gotta be on something.

ROs don't agree with leaving sample stools, scopes or other paraphernalia on the range. About everybody leaves a urine sample but only dogs go for the number 2s, if my memory of past postings is correct.

Dave,

I got to thinking about Emile's recent history. It wasn't 10 years ago - probably no more than seven - that he was shooting pretty fair fullbore & some of the finest match rifle elevations I've had the pleasure to see - all with Central sights. It wasn't until macular degeneration had a grab as him that he changed over to shooting scope, despite the challenge that winding arse about caused him. Then, as his right shoulder succumbed to age he started shooting a rat gun off rests, then a bench when his frame couldn't manage getting down & up each range & finally converting to cacky handed this last year when his tight wing went totally belly up, and him having bugger all time left between today and eighty, if at all.

I reckom if I have his determination to continue shooting when I get to his age, I won't even give a bugger about the jokes that mugs like you & I crack about him.

Cheers, John
