vra gradings and rankings

Post by DannyS »

The VRA f class gradings and rankings have just been updated, maybe a new calculator is required, please check your grading and ranking, and submit any queries.

Cheers

That's right. My grading percentage looks a bit dodgy - still the correct grade though so I'll let it be.

Gradings and Rankings have been updated again, good to see Bruce and Rae Houston are back on the list, as are a few others, also good to see Cliff Jones is still firing a few shots. He would be pleased to know that.

Just a thought. There might be a score or two aging out (beyond the 2 year window the calculations are based on). This did cause confusion here & there in Queensland.

Hi John, we regularly seem to have shooters dropped of the list even though they are regulars at pm. Cliff passed away this year, but would be happy to know that he is still included.

Would be good to see more transparency with this, as was the case with the national rankings when Geoff Roberts ran them. For every shooter you could see what events were used to calculate the ranking. That way, if there were omissions or errors, the shooter could see them, and request a correction.

The calculation is 7th grade level and the method is outlined in SSR's.
It would be no problem for individuals to keep a running calculation of their own percentages ( grading ) or some mathematically inclined club stats could do it as a check against the NRAA figures.
As only Prize Meetings and the like are used it should be relatively easy to update at club level --just needs somebody to do it.
There was ( is ) less transparency with the old system which was calculated at a club level, most times by the Captain so nobody outside the club actually knew how the calculation was done ( if it was done at all)

This is the sort of thing that needs to be defined. A Queens is a prize meeting, a Champ of Champs is not. Do picnic shoots count etc. Also exactly how far back does the calculation go. People can only do their own calculations if they know exactly which events they are based on.

I thought that the SSRs quite explicitly define what shoots should be included in grading calculations and that the grade is calculated according to the result of the latest 8 events that a shooter competes in over a 24 month floating window. That's how I read 12.8 to 12.13.2 .

I stand corrected. Its all set out as you say. From that I'm assuming that picnic shoots, if run according to the SSRs, will qualify, while State Championships such as the Vic Champion of Champions comp are not open, so will not qualify.

Hi Barry, just went through my last 8 Open PM results and calculated the results as per the SSRs. Interesting, nothing like the gradings on the VRA site. Hopefully, my calculator is up to 7 grade maths.

Cheers
