new 260 rem for target shooting / plinking

Post by michaeljp »

Gday all,
Im about to take possession of a new tikka super varmint ( super varmint was the only 260 rem they had in stock) in 260 remington, that i want to use for long range target and some hunting but mainly target shooting. The scope i have is a Sightron S3 8-32x56 LRTD. The specs say it has 70 clicks of elevation and windage, now using 123gn or 140gn projectiles will this be enough elevation adjustment for 700-800 yards? Or how far would i get with that amount of adjustment? The Tikka comes with a standard picatinny rail or would i have to swap that rail for a 20moa rail to reach those distances?

Cheers,
Mick

I dont have a 260 so take this for what its worth but I would run the 130gr Bergers VLD and go from there. 70MOA is enough and then some to get to 1000yds with 20MOA.

You won't need to swap the rail to 20moa for 7-800 yards with that scope and probably can get to 1000 as well.

I have the same scope on a 6.5x47.

1000 yards should be around 30moa give or take.

I would still get a 20moa rail so the scope is in its mid range of adjustment rather than its extremes.
