Two scopes or what

Post by saum2 »

With a switch barrel set up is it better to use 2 scopes, or just the one and keep good records at the range where you intend to change barrels and adjust the one scope accordingly? Money is an issue.

Hi Geoff,
I think you will find most stick to one scope unless it is a barreled action. I like to use the minute hashes in my scopes for holdoff and then just set the scope wind zero and elevation off my records for each barrel.

Geoff,

I switch a multitude of barrels on two Barnards (generally a barrel will stay with the action it was threaded for). I have two good (different) scopes and use them on either action depending on the needs of the shoot. I have learnt to record scope elevation settings after every shoot, and wind zero settings as often as practical.

If money is an issue I wouldn't get a second scope until you already have a good one, and by good I mean the likes of NF, Leupold, Sightron as a minimum standard.

Thanks for the input, I should have mentioned that I intend to use the one action only. Hopefully, the 6 & 7mm are close with elevation & windages settings. I have a 12-42x 56 NF

I'd be buying a collimator as a priority item in your circumstances. Combined with a notebook it's worth it's weight in gold when swapping scopes and barrels.
