Fclass scope choice

Hi

I am looking for a upgrade to my optics and have a few considerations.

I do not have a huge budget and the scopes I am considering are:

Nightforce BR 12-42

Sightron s3 10-50

Burris XTR2 8-40

Price wise the sightron wins and in terms of features the burris takes the cake . This leaves me guessing that the NF wins in quality.

I have my concerns with all the listed scopes.

Sightron: 50moa being on the limited side. Poor warranty support if it fails.

Nightforce : 40 MOA !! Is this enough? I do not like the idea that this scope may be put to its limits when shooting LR and also load testing at 100m

Burris : 70MOA yep ! features YEP ! But these guys are new to this type of scope and I have my doubts that the quality is going to please my expectations. Based on the limited reviews I am a little worried about dropping $1300 od to be a gunnie pig.

I have owned a sightron s3 8-32 in the past and liked it.
And I am kind of leaning this way,

What do you guys think?

Any other ideas that wont break the bank?

Nothing it served well. I just sold it some time back.

Plus 1 for the Sightron. I had an issue with a series 2 and it was repaired free of charge, just posted it to Sightron in the US.

I read somewhere that burris and Steiner owned by the same company and share a lot of the same looks/features in some models. Steiner seem to have a good reputation.

Hi John, I have purchased 5 sightrons from the US over the years, a series 1, a series 2 and three series 3 ( 6-24, 8-32 and a10-50).

Only one I had an issue with was the series 2, which I loaned to someone for a while, when I got it back it was faulty but it was repaired at no charge.

I have 2 sightron 8-32 scopes with 1/8 clicks. they are all the scope you need to compete. I can buy 4 of them for the price of a march, but that is what i would buy if money was no object.

The bottom line is , you need 1/8 clicks (well i like that), you need at least 30 power. ED glass would be good under some conditions ... hence the march is good. Not sure if there is anything else i would spend money on. Of course nightforce are good but if i spent alot it would be a march for sure...

I currently have a vortex viper PST now and that is what I will be selling to fund the new scope.
The PST is good , its tracks perfect, has lots of features such as zero stop and illumination.

What I dont like is the glass. It gets a little cloudy on max power and tends to annoy me a little. This seems to be the common thing with these scopes. Also the 24x is just not enough for me.

For those who have not seen this scope yet.

70MOA of elevation.
34mm tube
Illuminated reticle
Front focal plane reticle
Reticle has 0.5moa subtensions , the only other scope that has this is the March right?

$1200 US give or take....

Seems like a lot of good features. Seems like almost too many good features for the price?
This is what causes my worry.

Thats what I liked my Sightron. It was simple and elegant.
It did what it was meant to and nothing more.

The Sightron is a compromise in terms of reticle choice.
I previously has the MOA2 this had 2MOA subtensions indexed at 20x.
On 32x it was just over 1MOA.
This I still found too course to accurately use. And why the Burris appeals.
If I consider the 1/4 click open turret sightron S3 I could choose the MOA2 again which is still indexed at 20x.
On 50x im guessing each subtension would be closer to 0.5MOA?

Or otherwise I will get the fine cross hair or target dot and use the rings on the target or start to dial wind.

One thing I am certain of is I hate being poor when it comes to buying scopes.
I know what want.
But unfortunately the perfect scope either dose not exist or is out of my budget.....

No people pushing the NF???
I am surprised !
The 40MOA of adjustment is not enough?

G'day All,
NF BR12-42 NP-2DD works for me, I've had two (sold the 8-32 to buy the 12-42) both great, reliable and I use mine out to 1000 with a 6x47 Lapua.
I'd buy another if I could afford it. FYI, I do own a March 40x52 as well but the NF get the job done with my full confidence in it.
I like the DD reticle as I've found as a aiming off shooter that the spotter usually ends up very close to the inner end of the horizontal stadia bars so I plonk the end (with minor hold off) where I want the bullet to go and let it rip. Works for me!

You can get 1/8 moa adjustments with Sightrons as a special order. I went this way with an S3 10-50x60 with the LRMOA reticle which has 1/4 moa turrets as standard.

From memory it was an extra $150.00.

Nightforce with NPR - 2 reticle. Best reliable good optics bang for bucks going I recon.

The only downfall in them is they are heavier than some.

+1 for night force NPR-2 I have three of them and really happy with them
