ACT Queens Report

Post by AlanF »

Well its nearly 2pm and no results online as far as I can see.

Looks like the weather is fine, and light winds.

When the results get posted, they should available via links from this page : http://www.canberrarifleclub.org.au/?page_id=1968

Good luck to all. Luck comes in handy on this range. :D

I think you must be right......5:30pm Canberra time and still nothing on either site.
Don't these people running the show down there realize that F Class is now a spectator sport with very keen followers from all over Australia who are hanging out for results. :D  :D

Mr Berry
Looking at your last post you won't be gracing us with your presence this year?
I have just arrived after taking an alternate route through Yass, I can only assume I missed the turnoff when I dropped my custard tart

Tim,
No mate, I can't be there. I only just started "work hardening" activities (still paid by WorkCover Qld) last Monday, and have to do 4 hrs a day, 3 days a week for a couple of weeks, then 6 hrs x 3 and then 8 hrs x 3 if the knee holds up......so unfortunately I just have to play by their rules and behave myself, staying here in Qld.
Realistically I won't be traveling interstate to any Queens until I am back in the workforce.
So I am among the many that are hanging out for news !!! See if you can catch some gossip when you catch up with Davies, Paroz, Ferrara etc at the pub, please

First report from the coal face.
The conditions today were fairly light winds most of the time but constantly changing directions. I don't think anyone got through their 10 or 15 shots without at least one direction change, enough to push 308s into the 4 ring or worse if you really didn't look. Mirage was pretty bad in the afternoon when the temperatures crept up, with some hot weather forecast for the next few days.
There are 36 in F std which is looking very strong, with 13 in F Open and F/tr really starting to take hold, with 12 shooters. There are quite a few more people coming for the Queens so numbers should be good all around.
In F Open, Bob Pederson has dabbled in the dark side with his new 284 going well, taking the lead early on until he got caught in some sloppy conditions in the 15 shot match.
In F/tr, shooters are still swapping around between 155s, 185s and up to 210s as conditions deteriorated later in the day, so still plenty of experimentation happening there. Rod Mahon is currently just ahead of Mark Fairburn in F/TR with Anthony Pederson and Steve Sharp very close behind.
Calibre wise, there are no real surprises with 284s being most popular later in the day with 6mms being more common in the morning. Tomorrow will be 600/700/800m with similar conditions, likely getting some decent winds later in the day for the 15 shot match at 800m.

Thanks Rod. Good to see that you are keeping civilised hours this year. :)
Was that the Dasher's first career stumble, in the 300 metres ?
Given your propensity for shooting the guts out of the 300 Yd/mtr X Ring every time I have ever seen you compete, you certainly finished your day in fine style.
We look forward to your updates throughout the next 4 days of shooting............say 3 a day would work
Good luck to all .
Tony

Yep, taking it serious this year, back home by midnight some nights.
It was the Dashers first stumbles, time for a midlife rechamber, but I have a new 6.5 Gertrude to take her place during the Queens.

Very nice 600m Rod. That is a strong field in F-Open as usual at Canberra. You've got Jenny with that hummer Bartlein, Spencer the ACT master, Bob Ped who's finally seen the light :D , plus Matt overdue for a resumption of his winning ways. You'd better make sure Gertrude II appreciates the gravity of the situation. :D

Thanks for the update, very informative - keep them coming. I presume you, Matt and Ben will be having nightly editorial meetings at the Eaglehawk?

Rod,

Would it be possible to announce at the Rolph Presentation that there will be an F-Class Calcutta on ozfclass.com on FRIDAY night (i.e. a day earlier than normal). Its because the results have been too predictable at the end of day 2 lately (and probably again with Canberra finishing 500-600m). So we'll be doing two Calcuttas, one for F-Open, and one for F-Std and F/TR combined, starting as soon as the top 10s are known at the end of day 1 of the Queens.

Thanks

Alan
