QRA Queens 2015 Equipment List

Post by ecomeat »

Thanks to Tim Nugent, Josh Reid and Brent Noble for helping to collect the info from shooters.
In hindsight I think we should have also added "Gunsmith", so we can all see who is responsible for the rifles performing at the "pointy end".......but i couldnt print any wider on the sheet we collected the raw data on. So what do we drop to fit "Gunsmith" ? Years shooting Open ?
As you will see there are a handful of shooters we didnt manage to track down, so if they could PM me there details,I will add them, and just replace the "photobucket" uploads.

Thanks David. You are welcome. :) :)
Some people enjoy seeing what others use, and i guess a goodly number couldnt care less, but I like to know myself, so I am happy to do my bit and share it.
A quick skim showed me 64 rifle details.....of which 24 are 284 Win......and 26 of the 64 are Barnards.
I am definitely surprised at the low number of pointed bullets. They shoot approx 1 moa flatter, so even though they clearly didnt give me any advantage, i really expected a higher percentage to be enjoying the easy benefits.

Simple really Denis. I use a Hoover die setup.
Slowly increase the point without creating a noticeable "step", then set.
Use a tiny amount of lube on the tip.
I don't meplat trim, just point.
The Hoover setup has really well finished pointing inserts.

Great work Tony and helpers.

I find it interesting that 180 Hybrids seem to be increasing in popularity. At one time they were out of favour compared with the VLD.

Hi All,
There will be many things of interest from this list, only 3 sightron scopes in use and all from the Cessnock club.

And primers - when I took orders for the FCWC 2013, most wanted Fed 210GMs but they weren't available initially so most opted for CCI BR-2s. Look at it now - not many using Feds.

Tim,

My Sightron has been relegated to number 2 after the NF Comp. Its a tad bigger and heavier, and optics aren't quite as good, but I would be happy to use it at major events.

I see there were a couple on the list, but did the SAUMz get much of a run ? or did people rely on other rifles and just bring them out once or twice ?

5 of the 6 SAUMS listed won a badge................but what are the odds that those particular trigger pullers would probably have done just as well with any 7mm ?
