Berger 155gn Hybrids - any good….?

Hi guys - a couple of my F-Class friends have been trialling Berger's 308 Win 155gn Hybrids and have a quite a bit of success in terms of accuracy.

What is the consensus out there about these vs the standard 155.5gn Bergers ?

In shorter ranges I have found them to deliver excellent grouping. The 155.5 Fullbores are more consistent at longer ranges, especially under difficult conditions. Your experiences may vary.

My 308s loved them especially in warm weather. My thoughts are that since they are longer than the regular 308 bullets that the common 13" twist barrels don't like them in the cooler weather (more dense air) but the 12" twist barrels are more consistent with them, especially at longer ranges, (I only shot them out to 900yds for a 60. but you do need to find what jump or jam they like. I have not played with the 155.5s but MAYBE they are more forgiving of seating depth. Those who I know liked the 155 hybrids were all jumping them around .030".

Hi . Have been using them for a while now . They work at 1000 yds in a 12 twist . Pretty much what Rod said! Actually I've heard of a good mate of mine from Ipswich used them successfully with a 13 twist Maddco 3 groove I think it was !

Berger states that a 1 in 12 twist is needed.
I have found the Hybrid to be the projectile of choice in 2 of my barrels in which I cannot get the 155.5 to shoot as accurate.
30 thous is also what I jump them.
They also appear user friendly in that different brass, primer and powder combinations can still produce the required result.

I always favored the 155.5s but I also had 1:13s for my last two barrels so that would back up what everyone else has said. What twist barrel have you got?

I generally run both the hybrids and the Fullbores just touching the lands. Benchmark 8208 works extremely well with both slugs.

Thanks guys, I am shooting a 1 in 12 twist barrel, so I might give Hybrids a try. 155.5 Bergers have always shot pretty well in my gun, except at 800m. I really find it hard to achieve consistently high scores at this range, in fact 155.5s seem to be really susceptible to wind at this rang as opposed to say 700m.

That said maybe I am not running a hot enough load (45.5gn 2208). A lot of my mates are using 46 or 46.5gn 2208, so maybe I need to get them moving faster ?

It's an option, just don't sacrifice precision for a little extra velocity. If they group the same or better at the faster speed then you might be onto a winner.

Thanks for the feedback, I think I'll stick to the 155.5 Target Bergers, they are very consistent

Tried the hybrids, Fullbores and HBC's. I think the 155.5 Fullbores are the pick of them all. Hybrids may work better in a 1-10" or 11" twist than the 12" I'm using. With multiple wind direction shifts over 900m the hybrids aren't in the hunt compared to the 155.5 Fullbores for stability regardless of better bc's etc. Others may find otherwise. Whatever floats your boat I guess.

HBC's were the most inconsistent when cbto measurements were taken off my chamber. I did find that unsorted projectiles did group with a 5mm at 100m dispersion with only one 5 shot group. This isn't really representative though. I hope current batches are better.
